Amec Foster Wheeler Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Lima, Peru
Preparation of technical proposals and reports.
Supervision of geotechnical engineering and technical staff.
Undertake geotechnical investigations and studies.
Project management of assignments that may include the conducting and coordinating of a wide variety of materials testing programs and geotechnical investigations.
Geotechnical design and fundamentals of design such as feasibility studies, stability assessments, heavy industrial foundations, dams, mining, tunnelling or geo-environmental projects.
Work on projects from scoping study level to detailed design and construction
Work as an integral team member in a multi-discipline environment
Liaise with other technical specialists including hydrogeologists, hydrologists, geochemists, rock mechanics, environmental, and other disciplines
Manage contractors and sub-consultants
Carry out business development in the above areas, with support from other senior AmecFW staff, and E&I’s BD support team. This will include presentations to clients and potential clients and to government regulators, as well as participation in technical and industry conferences.
Train and mentor junior and intermediate staff in appropriate tasks, and review their work.
The position tasks will require periodic travel to project sites remote from Lima, as necessary to achieve project goals. In Peru, these sites are commonly located at high elevations, therefore it is required that you do not have medical conditions that would prohibit you from travelling to and working at high altitudes (above 4,000 m.a.s.l).
Coordinate the activities of the Geotechnical Group staff, in conjunction with the Geotechnical Group manager. Substitute for the manager when he/she is out-of-office or on vacation.
Provide geotechnical input and leadership in sectors other than mining. Other sectors would include: energy (particularly hydroelectric); oil & gas; industrial / commercial; and transportation.
Other duties assigned by the Geotechnical Manager within the scope of their competence.
15+ years of civil, geotechnical or related experience obtained largely from mining projects
Bachelor´s degree in geological, geotechnical, mining or civil engineering or equivalent
Master's degree in an engineering related discipline is preferred
Proven leadership skills of technical teams
Strong communication, interpersonal and task management skills
Experience conducting geotechnical investigations, deep and shallow foundation design, seismic hazard assessments, tailings management
Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects and teams in a mining or construction related environment
Experience with design and construction of tailings dams, leach pads, waste dumps, and major mining infrastructure
Proven experience with budgeting and cost forecasting
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong client management experience.
Strong business development skills.
Willingness and ability to travel to high altitude sites in the Andean mountain range.
Eligible for professional registration.
