Amec Foster Wheeler Geotechnical Group Manager in Lima, Peru
Position: Geotechnical Department Manager, reporting to the Environment & lnfrastructure (E&I) Operating Unit Manager.
Act as a senior technical resource and project manager for design, investigation and construction supervision, primarily in mining-related development projects - such as tailings facilities, access roads, heap leach facilities, open pits, waste dumps, foundation designs, etc.
Train and mentor junior and intermediate staff in appropriate tasks, and review their work.
Lead geotechnical design and fundamentals of design such as dams, heap leach pads, slope stability assessments, heavy industrial foundations, tunnelling and geo-environmental projects.
Act as project manager on geotechnical and multidisciplinary projects. Other disciplines typically involved would include: water resources, environmental, social.
Collaborate and coordinate with other technical specialists including hydrogeologists, hydrologists, geochemists, rock mechanics, environmental specialists
Carry out business development in the above areas, with support from other senior AMEC staff, and E&I’s BD support team. This will include presentations to clients and potential clients and to government regulators, as well as participation in technical and industry conferences.
Coordinate the activities of the Geotechnical Group staff. You will be responsible for tracking and optimizing the utilization for the group, in cooperation with E&I’s operations area.
Coordinate activities of CAD staff in civil-geotechnical design projects.
Provide geotechnical input and leadership in sectors other than mining. Other sectors would include: energy (particularly hydroelectric); oil & gas; industrial / commercial; and transportation.
Coordinate with the other Managers to optimize ‘cross-utilization’ of staff between groups.
The position tasks will require periodic travel to project sites remote from Lima, as necessary to achieve project goals. These sites are commonly located at high elevations, therefore it is required that you do not have medical conditions that would prohibit you from travelling to and working at high altitudes (above 4,000 m.a.s.l.).
Identify and recruit staff for new projects and clients
Work cooperatively with other AmecFW offices in Chile and worldwide
Provide business metric reports and projections.
Bachelor degree in geological engineer, geotechnical, mining or civil engineering.
Master's degree in geotechnical engineering is not requisite, but is seen as advantageous.
15+ years of tailings, civil, geotechnical or related experience, primarily in the mining sector.
5+ years of management experience.
Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
Proven experience in leading technical teams.
Strong communication, interpersonal and task management skills.
Ability to multi-task between various strategic and tactical technical interrelated issues.
Experience with design and construction of tailings dams and related mine-site earthworks infrastructure.
Project management experience in a mining or construction related environment.
Experience with budgeting and cost forecasting.
